News Article: Isoflavones

Interest in soy based foods has increased tremendously over the years. Reasearch began in the early 1950's and over the past few years there has been many medical and scientific reports published. Soy foods contain powerful phytonutrients called isoflavones, these include genistein, daidzein, glycitein.

Isoflavones have been known to help with various conditions, including breast cancer and menopausal complaints - as they have a weak estrogenic effect on the body. When the ovaries stop producing estrogen, the adrenals are required to take over estrogen production. If the adrenals are sluggish and cannot produce enough, the body will be deficient.

Isoflavones function as adoptogens in the body, meaning if a women is producing an excess of estrogen, isoflavones work to block the estrogen from the receptor sites. They also work when a women is deficient in estrogen, as they introduce enough estrogen to nourish the body.

The risk of developing breast cancer is increased when high blood levels of estrogen are present. As mentioned above, isoflavones have a weak estrogenic effect on the body and they are able to work as anti-estrogens in the blood.

Women experiencing menopause often report symptoms like headaches, hot flashes, night sweats and emotional disturbances. Isoflavones can support the body when ingested as a food or in a supplement form. The phytonutrients are present in the greatest amount in tofu and found the least in soy milk. Asian women consuming large quantities of soy foods report very low occurrence of menopausal complaints. Supplementation with isoflavones can offer the same balancing effect.

If you are currently experiencing unpleasant symptoms during menopause there is help. Balancing your body through nutrition can make all the difference. Relief may be found the quickest through supplementation instead of increasing soy in the diet as the potency of isoflavones is more concentrated in a tablet or capsule form. The support you need is readily available - Empower yourself with isoflavones today!
