Product: Folic Acid

Company: Natural Factors

Size: 90 Tablets

Ingredients: Folic Acid 1mg, Vitamin C 20mg

Dosage: Take one tablet daily or as directed by a physician.

Contains no artificial preservatives, color, dairy, sweeteners, starch, wheat or yeast.

Description: Folic Acid may be the number one nutritional deficiency among North Americans. The symptoms are megaloblastic anemia, irritability, weakness, weight loss, apathy, anorexia, dyspnea, soreness of the tongue, headache, palpitations, forgetfulness, hostility, paranoid behaviour, gastrointestinal tract disturbances and diarrhea. Many medications interfere with folacin absorption including oral contraceptives, anticonvulsants, and phynobarbital. Caffeine, alcohol, pregnancy, exercise, calorie-restrictive diets, and nursing may make persons deficient in Folic Acid.

Folic Acid is needed for energy production and the formulation of red blood cells. It also aids in the formation and functioning of white blood cells, thus strengthening the immune system. It works best when taken with Vitamin B12 and Vitamin C.

Folic Acid is very important in pregnancy. Studies have shown that Folic Acid supplementation in early pregnancy may prevent the majority of spina bifida and neural tube defects and may protect against premature birth. Many experts recommend that all women of childbearing age take a Folic Acid supplement regularly as fetal damage takes place within the first six weeks of pregnancy, before most women know they have conceived.

Studies also suggest that inadequate folic acid intake may also increase the risk of developing colorectal cancer, cervical dysplasia and cancer of the cervix.
