Description: Natural Factors has followed up on the findings of world-renowned ADD researcher and author Dr. Michael Lyon, (Healing the Hyperactive Brain) and introduced an innovative Smoothie Mix designed to lessen the effects of attention disorders. Dr. Lyon’s research has uncovered four nutritional problems common to many with learning disorders, including attention deficit disorder (ADD), that can be alleviated by combining 35 selected nutrients into a daily drink can address the four nutritional problems common to many with learning and attention disorders: brain-critical nutrients, gastrointestinal intensive care nutrients, detoxification nutrients, and immune system nutrients.

As a foundation for delicious blender smoothies, Learning Factors provides a quick and satisfying meal replacement of super-nutritious snack. It gives kids with food allergies or intolerances a welcome break from restrictive meals. Its convenience makes eating on the run delicious and nutritious. Rather than just a random selection of nutrients, he type and quantity of each ingredient has been carefully chosen to provide wide ranging nutritional support. Brain-critical nutrients. Dr. Lyon’s research has established that a child’s brain development requires these important components: Protein containing the key amino acids phenylalanine and tyrosine help brain function since they support the action of the necessary neurotransmitters, dopamine and norepinephrine. Neurotransmitters are important for attentiveness, task completion and ability to remain calm when appropriate. Conditions such as attention deficit disorder may be related to low production of some neurotransmitters derived from specific amino acids. These amino acids are plentiful in the rice protein used in Learning Factors. Minerals needed for optimum brain function such as iron, magnesium, zinc, calcium as well as trace minerals such as chromium, selenium, manganese, molybdenum and copper. Learning Factors provides plenty of calcium to support bone development and brain function. Research shows that magnesium can reduce irritability and hyperactivity in children with attention disorders. Iron is needed, not only to build blood cells, but also by the brain. Children with iron deficiencies demonstrate impaired intellectual performance. Antioxidants mop up the free radicals that can interfere with brain performance. The brains of children with cognitive or behavioral problems are often under oxidative stress. Vitamins C and E, beta-carotene and the phytonutrients contained in grapeseed, milk thistle and a special fruit extract are the key antioxidants in the Smoothie Mix. Take grapeseed for example: It is one of the most stable and effective natural antioxidants currently available, helping to protect the brain from oxidation. B Vitamins are necessary for numerous biochemical functions, particularly energy production. The brain consumes about twenty percent of the body’s energy, so adequate intake of B vitamins is vital for optimal brain performance. Learning Factors Smoothie Mix has high quantities of all important B vitamins. Fatty acids: omega-3 and omega-6 fatty acids are also brain-critical. Although they are not provided in the Smoothie Mix, we do recommend parents supplement with Learning Factors liquid and/or capsules that supply the critical omega-3 and omega-6 fatty acids.

Learning Factors liquid and capsules is designed to be taken as an adjunct to the Smoothie Mix. Gastrointestinal intensivecare nutrients "I have long since learned through personal experience and years of scientific study, that the brain and the body are intimately connected and absolutely inseparable."1 Leaky gut syndrome is an unhealthy condition in which the lower intestine has become porous, allowing undigested food particles, parasites, and toxins to flow through the intestinal wall into the blood stream. The immune system responds by creating antibodies which in themselves can cause food allergies and other health problems. The ingredients in the Smoothie Mix include B vitamins (especially pantothenic acid), vitamins A, E, C, minerals (particularly zinc), enzymes (pepzyme), prebiotics (FOS) and probiotics to help heal and bind to toxins, decreasing parasites, food allergies and the reactions that affect the brain.

Detoxification nutrients

Can toxins affect children's learning? Yes. "However, it is equally as probably that we have entered an era in which the human race is now being impacted by a century of environmental degradation and that this is partly to blame for the apparent deterioration of our children’s brain function. It is vital that we each take steps to protect our brains from the very real threat imposed by our increasingly poisoned environment. We simply cannot wait until all of the “proof is in” before we take measures to guard our delicate brains from neurotoxic pollution." Environmental toxins found in our food, air, water (even the amalgam fillings in our teeth) can irritate sensitive body systems, contributing to compromised learning and behavior. Natural detoxification agents such as Milk Thistle, L-Glutamine, N-acetyl-cysteine, D-glucaric acid, inorganic sulfate and fibre are included to help the body cleanse itself of the toxic load. Milk thistle extract protects the liver from toxic stress, increases production of glutathione in the liver and, along with lecithin, results in more efficient flow of bile from the liver. Fibre from guar gum, oat bran, and rice protein, stimulates the output of toxins from the liver. These unique fibres act like a sponge, binding and neutralizing the toxins so they can be harmlessly excreted.

Immune system nutrients

Especially in children, infections, stress, toxic antigens, and nutritional deficiencies can lower immune system response. The high protein (derived from low-allergy potential rice protein), caffeine-free, Smoothie Mix contains an abundance of nutrients that support compromised immune systems in both children and adults. Zinc, selenium and vitamins (such as vitamins A, C and the B complex) are just some of the many nutrients that provide immune system support.

Who can use Learning Factors Smoothie Mix?

Everyone! It is ideal for mid-morning or afternoon snacks, and as meal replacement to enhance weight loss. Although some have even used it as an infant formula, we suggest doing so only under the direction of your knowledgeable health care provider. Learning Factors Smoothie Mix is delicious (your children will look forward to it) and it’s easy to make. Just toss some frozen fruit into a blender with appropriate scoops of Smoothie Mix and water. Seasonal berries, bananas, mangos, or kiwi are just some delicious tasting fruits you might want to try. You can even make popsicles from a batch of Smoothie Mix. It provides a unique ratio of vitamins, minerals, amino acids, antioxidants, and enzymes to enhance optimal brain function. It can improve performance and relieve stress. To improve its nutritional value (especially to help with ADD, ADHD, learning, and brain function), take in conjunction with Learning Factors (liquid or capsules) that supply essential omega-3 and omega-6 fatty acids
